Handles, saddle, pedals

The correct sitting position is ensured through the three contact points. Imagine your bike is a tailored suit. With a custom-made suit, the fit determines how well it sits - it is the same with cycling. The most important thing for the right fit is the position of the three contact points -relative to each other and relative to the bicycle as a whole. The seat, the handlebars and grips, the pedals. For me, these three points of contact are comparable to the dimensions of a tailored suit - they must be right.

 

A bike should fit, feel comfortable and ride well. The dimensions must match. However, these dimensions are different for each person. That's why at Santos we have a variety of handles and steering mechanisms, seats and pedals.


A bike made to measure

Made to measure or off-the-peg. What is most important in a tailored suit? I think it is the quality of the tailor. Only the best tailor can make the best suit from the best materials. This also applies to bicycles. The designer, the frame builder and the mechanic, they are the 'tailors' of our bikes - and at Santos we have the best tailors.

 

We have our own designers. We know exactly what we want. We are also cyclists ourselves. Moreover, we test all the frames and bikes ourselves before we decide to take them into production.

 

Our frame builders are among the best. They make the Santos frames that we have become known for from top quality materials. Reliable frames that form the heart of all Santos bikes – bikes with the famous Santos riding attributes. You cannot see it, you must experience it - and that can only be done during a test ride.

Frame Development & Design

The XC-rear fork on the mountain bikes

 

More space for the tyre and chain ring. We have all experienced it before, at least if you have used your bike in the woods or on the beach. Your new comfortable extra-wide rear tyres barely fit between your rear forks! A little dirt and your beautiful frame is sanded bare.

 

Due to this we invented the Santos XC rear fork. The rear fork with room for extra-wide tyres up to 2.4 (XC stands for Extra tyre Clearance). The mud goes easily through it, making it easy for all the dredging through mud during winter bike tours – and, of course, also for the summer dredging.

 

Ergonomically it is best if you have your feet close together. So the lower the Q-value, the better. Therefore, we have also addressed a second problem; the increasingly wider Q-value of crank arms (the rods to which your pedals are attached). In other words, you ride the bike like you are sitting on a horse - your feet are too far apart. With our XC rear fork you can combine the modern wide tyres with a low Q-value (read narrow crank set).
